ChatGPT
This guide connects ChatGPT directly to MoraWP's remote MCP server. The ChatGPT connection is separate from the MoraWP Plugin installed in WordPress.
Before you begin
Connect a WordPress website in MoraWP. Your ChatGPT account and workspace policy must allow adding a custom MCP server. If those controls are unavailable, check with your ChatGPT workspace administrator.
Add the server
- Open ChatGPT Plugins.
- Select + → Add custom MCP server.
- Use MoraWP as the name and a description such as Access my authorized WordPress websites through MoraWP.
- Under Connection, use the public server URL:
https://api.morawp.com/mcp - Select OAuth authentication. Review ChatGPT's warning, then choose I understand and want to continue → Create as a plugin if you agree.
- Complete the MoraWP sign-in when prompted and review the app, Workspace, and access. OAuth may be requested when first using an authenticated tool.
- Review the discovered tools and install the resulting ChatGPT plugin.
MoraWP does not require a static Agent key. Do not paste a WordPress password or an unrelated API key into the connection settings.
Desktop app and hosted chats
The custom plugin flow above targets ChatGPT's hosted conversations. On Desktop, select the installed MoraWP plugin in a new chat if it is available to that account and workspace.
Desktop also has local MCP servers settings shared with Codex on the same host. Those are a different setup surface: follow Codex's desktop instructions when connecting that local runtime. Do not assume a hosted plugin and a local MCP server share the same authorization.
See OpenAI's MCP surface guide for the distinction.
Use it in a conversation
Start a new conversation, type @, and select the MoraWP plugin. Ask:
Use MoraWP to list the websites this connection may access.
Let me choose one. Do not change anything on a website.
Check: ChatGPT calls MoraWP and returns the intended website. Continue with Read one page to check an actual WordPress read.
If it does not work
| What you see | Next step |
|---|---|
| Adding custom MCP servers is unavailable | Check ChatGPT account and workspace policy. |
| ChatGPT asks you to sign in | Complete MoraWP OAuth; adding the URL alone does not grant access. |
| MoraWP is installed but unused | Start a new conversation and select it with @. |
| Tools look outdated after a server update | Open the custom connection, choose Refresh, and start a new conversation. |
| An action is refused | Follow Access denied; do not broaden access just to suppress the error. |
Disconnect the Agent in MoraWP when it should no longer have access. Removing the ChatGPT plugin is separate from revoking that MoraWP connection.
Interface steps were checked against OpenAI's official connection guide on October 9, 2026. Follow that guide if your ChatGPT interface differs.
